Dr Amy Webster has a background in neuroscience and medical visualisation, and has just recently completed her PhD at Glasgow Caledonian University, in collaboration with Glasgow School of Art and funded by the MS Society, UK.
Finding long-term, enjoyable and effective approaches to rehabilitation for improving upper limb function for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) is challenging. Virtual reality (VR) has vast potential within rehabilitation, but has been neglected within MS, and in particular, upper limb rehabilitation. Dr Webster will be presenting her work from her PhD, investigating upper limb rehabilitation using immersive VR for people with MS, with a focus on the co-production study to develop VR-based games for and by people with MS. She will also present her findings from a randomised, controlled feasibility study of an eight-week intervention using these games, evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of these games within people with MS.
