Countless studies demonstrate the high potential of immersive therapy based on virtual re-ality (VR). However, until now the practical implementations did not yet meet the clinical requirements. With CUREO®, therapists and patients finally have an innovative, sophisti-cated VR therapy system at their disposal.
Consisting of hardware and the pre-installed, CE-certified software, CUREO® is immedi-ately applicable and already in use in leading clinics. CUREO® therapy promotes rehabili-tation in cases of damage to the central nervous system (e.g. after stroke, paraplegia or neurodegenerative diseases), pain, and mobility restrictions after operations. Modular train-ing units in a VR environment playfully support cognitive and sensorimotor rehabilitation. Motor skills of the upper extremities and trunk are promoted.
From the hospital bed in clinical rehabilitation, to outpatient therapy, e.g. in a wheelchair, to aftercare, CUREO® can be used transsectorally. Thanks to its mobile use, CUREO® enables new aftercare concepts at the patient and a sustainable quality of care.
Thanks to the possibility of parallel, individualized therapy of several patients by one thera-pist, personnel resources can be spared and therapists can be relieved while maintaining therapy quality. Gamification promotes patient motivation, willingness to participate in therapy, and thus therapy success.
Unique therapy functions such as mirror therapy can be added at the touch of a button and without great effort. In addition, CUREO® offers sonification – the sounding of movements -, embodiment via an avatar, relaxation and breathing training, and color therapy to promote neuroregulation. Music therapy is also available and can be used for motor rehabilitation. Thanks to finger tracking without a controller, patients can also train the fine motor skills of their hands and individual fingers, allowing them to practice different grip types, for exam-ple. Immersion in immersive VR worlds supports pain reduction.
In addition, therapists have access to automated training plans that allow them to put together a sequence of programs before therapy begins and then play them back. Basic skills such as attention or reaction can be tested using the patient testing tool. The results can be exported and can be used as a basis for setting the level of difficulty in order to optimally
treat the patient. Intuitive guidance through the user interface additionally supports a smooth therapy flow.
The different modules can be adapted to the patient’s motor and sensory abilities and adjusted flexibly and continuously in terms of difficulty.
The wireless “remote” capability enables therapy control by the therapist at a distance. This expands the range of applications so that therapy sessions can also be performed completely contact-free and thus with a significantly reduced risk of infection.
The CUREO® system communicates data securely via the supplied hot spot. Neither Internet access nor a connection to the in-house IT is required. As a German company, CUREos-ity takes data protection seriously and complies with local regulations. Data sovereignty is the sole responsibility of the clinics.
Our system was developed in several years of collaboration with scientists, physicians, therapists, patients and software specialists in a practical, iterative process.
